Opportunities

Opportunity: Community Connector

Camden’s Community Connectors work with people who are 60+ to connect with social opportunities in a way that suits them. Providing support and encouragement for individuals to try new activities or reengage with interests, building their confidence and enabling independence.
The service works with individuals who may have fewer social connections than they would like or who may be facing barriers to being able to engage with activities. This could include having experienced a significant life changing event, for example the isolation caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Volunteers help the Community Connector staff to support clients achieve their goals. Volunteers provide the short-term intervention and support, to help with building confidence and will support a number of clients during their time as a volunteer.

Opportunity: Dementia Befriending

The Dementia Befriending Service supports people to live independently and safely at home for as long as possible, stay socially engaged and carry on doing what they love. The service supports Camden residents over the age of 55 in the early or moderate stages of dementia. We match people with a volunteer befriender who will visit on a regular weekly basis.

Opportunity: Good Neighbour Befriending

Our Good Neighbour Befriending Schemes are for older people who live in the NW3 and Primrose Hill area of Camden. The scheme is for people who are 65 +. Priority is given to those who are isolated, housebound or living with disabilities.
It can be tough in later life if you are on your own. Sometimes family members move away, we lose contact with old friends, or a bereavement can leave us feeling lonely. Befriending can help to ease some of these challenges that older people face.
Volunteers are matched with an older person with a view to developing a long term friendly relationship.

Opportunity: Telefriends

Many older people in Camden experience social isolation and loneliness. For some home visits are not an option and others prefer the option of a telephone befriender. Our Telefriends volunteers offer older people companionship and company over the phone.
